Why Engage Me To Be Your Law Firm’s

Professional Lines Insurance Broker ?

  1. I’ve specialized in insuring law firms for over 5 years, with over 25 years’ insurance experience overall. Since 2009, California has required attorneys to disclose to clients if they do not carry professional liability coverage. The rush of business led to development of the necessary “inside” knowledge about how to obtain the best coverage for law firm clients.
  2. I’m a true broker, not an agent representing any company or program. I submit your application to wholesale brokers and managing general agents, some of whom hold “the pen” and run their own admitted and non-admitted carrier programs. Legally, I represent you, not any insurer.
  3. I’m also licensed as a “surplus lines” broker, providing access to an additional range of carriers that are “non-admitted” in your state. For larger policy premiums, I can also submit business directly to the “brokerage desks” of insurers with both admitted and non-admitted affiliates.
  4. Other insurance distribution channels are far more limited in their offerings:
    1. State Bar-endorsed brokers or carriers offer “one-size-fits-all” policies geared to the smallest firms and sole practitioners.
    2. State Bar-endorsed programs can only quote the carrier they are working with, and all their employees either directly represent or are otherwise beholden to that carrier.
    3. Lawyer-specific carriers, often organized as reciprocal or mutual companies, or sometimes as risk retention groups, again only offer one carrier’s policy, and any agents or employees you deal with will be representatives of the carrier, upon whom their livelihood depends. They may also charge more, since they lack access to capital markets.
    4. Main Street Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers are the best bet for your property, general liability, automobile and worker’s compensation, but how experienced are they in writing professional lines for law firms like yours? They’re based in a geographic area and play golf with your brother-in-law and try to be all things to all people and businesses.
    5. Internet-based programs from way out of state that come up on web searches for “lawyer’s professional liability” are worth getting a quote from, but are going to be best for sole practitioners and small firms with “vanilla” areas of practice.
    6. These other sources usually cannot offer other, vital professional lines such as D&O, Cyber, Crime, and Employment Practices Liability.
  5. When applying for insurance through my office, your risk will be quoted with 15 to 30 insurance carriers who actually write insurance for law firms. What could be better? Call or email me today!
